Note:
- Qualifying in test at Sl.No. 1 is compulsory, failing which the candidates is unfit for recruitment and further tests need not be carry out.
- The qualifying percentage marks required for the tests from Sr.No.2 to Sr.No.7 (taking equal weightage) put together shall be 90% and above on an average.
- Physical Assessment Test Test applicable for the candidates between 45-50 years shall also be applicable for the candidates beyond 50 years.
- Candidate has to qualify the Driving Test compulsory.
Those who clears the above Physical Standard, Physical Assessment & Driving Test shall be allowed for appearing for the Written Examination [Stage-1 (Preliminary Test) and Stage-2(Advance Test)]

Written Examination for the post of : Category-II Stipendiary Trainee (ST/TM)- Operator & Maintainer and Driver-cum-Pump Operator-cum-Fireman-A
The OMR based or Computer Based Test (CBT) Written Examination will be in two stages.
Stage-1- Preliminary Test (1 Hour Duration)
Stage-2- Advanced Test (2 Hours Duration)
Stage-1- Preliminary Test: It will be a screening examination to be held to shortlist candidates. The format of screening examination shall be common for all trades and will be in following format:
- Examination will comprise 50 Multiple Choice Questions (Choice of four answers) of 01 (one) hour duration in the following proportion:

- 03 (Three) marks shall be awarded for each correct answer and 01 (one) mark shall be deducted for each incorrect answer.
- Tests may be conducted in single/multiple sessions depending upon logistics requirements.
Qualifying Standards : The qualifying standards shall be as follows:
General Category (UR)/EWS – 40% marks;
SC/ST/OBC/PWBD – 30% marks (applicable, if vacancy exists in relevant reserved category)
Accordingly, the General/EWS Candidates < 40% marks and the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWBD with < 30% marks will be screened out for Stage-2.
Stage-2 – Advanced Test. [Test will be of 02 (two) hours duration]
- All candidates screened in Stage-1 to undertake an advanced test in their respective trade.
- The Test will be of 02 (two) hours duration.
- Category-II Stipendiary Trainee (ST/TM)-Operator: The level of questions will be based on the syllabus in HSC or ISC
Category-II Stipendiary Trainee (ST/TM)-Maintainer: The level of questions will be based on their respective trade.Driver-cum-Pump Operator-cum-Fireman-A: The level of questions will be based on the trade.
- The Test will comprise 50 Multiple Choice Questions (Choice of four answers) with 03 (Three) marks shall be awarded for each correct answer and 01 (one) mark shall be deducted for each incorrect answer.
Qualifying Standards: The qualifying standards shall be as follows:
General Category (UR)/EWS – 30% marks;
SC/ST/OBC/PWBD – 20% marks (applicable, if vacancy exist in relevant reserved category)
Accordingly, the General/EWS Candidates < 30% marks and the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWBD with < 20% marks will be screened out for further recruitment process.
- A merit list shall be prepared of candidates after Stage-2 based upon scores obtained in Stage-2 only.

In the event of a tie, following criteria shall be adopted in sequence for deciding position in merit list:
- Candidates with lower negative marks in Stage-2 shall be placed higher on the merit list.
- Candidates with higher marks in Stage-1 shall be placed higher on the merit list.
- Candidates with lower negative marks in Stage-1 shall be placed higher on the merit list.
- Candidates with higher positive marks in mathematics in Stage-1 will be placed higher on the merit list.
- Candidates with higher positive marks in Science in Stage-1 shall be placed higher on the merit list.
Candidates to undertake the Preliminary and Advanced Test on the same day. Preliminary Test will be carried out in the morning session and the advanced test for candidates screened in for Stage-2 will be carried out in the afternoon/evening session OR simultaneously i.e. one after the other depending upon the logistic requirement/conditions. In this situation, the candidature of candidates who do not qualify in Stage-1, will not be considered for Stage-2. Accordingly, OMR sheets of such candidates for Stage-2 will not be eligible for evaluation. NPCIL reserves right to change the schedule of examination, however any change shall be intimated in advance to the candidates.
Stage 3: Skill Test (Only for the post of Category-II Stipendiary Trainee (ST/TM)-Maintainer)
- Based upon the merit list prepared after Stage-2, Candidates in each trade shall be shortlisted for Skill Test.
- The number of candidates shortlisted for Skill Test would depend upon the number of candidates qualifying for Stage-2 but should not exceed 5 times the number of vacancies in each trade.
- The Skill Test will be of qualifying nature only on Go/No Go basis. Candidates clearing the Skill Test shall be shortlisted and empanelled in order of merit based on marks secured in Stage-2.
Note- There will not be any Skill Test for Category-II Stipendiary Trainee-Operator for which the prescribed qualification is HSC/ISC.

Wait List (Applicable for all the posts)
A wait list containing equal number of candidates as in the select main list shall be prepared, displayed and operated only in the event of occurrence of a vacancy caused by non-joining of the candidate from the select list within the stipulated time allowed for joining the post or where a candidate joins the post but resigns or dies within a period of one year from the date of joining, if a fresh panel is not available by that time. Wait list however, will not be operated beyond one year or after notification of such recruitment, whichever is earlier.
