About NPCIL, Kaiga Generating Station:-

Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is a premier Public Sector Enterprise, under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India having comprehensive capability in all facets of Nuclear Technology namely, Site Selection, Design, Construction, Commissioning, Operation, Maintenance, Renovation, Modernization & Up-gradation, Plant Life extension, Waste Management and Decommissioning of Nuclear Reactors in India under one roof.

Kaiga once a tiny hamlet in the sylvan surroundings of the Western Ghats aloof from the rest of the world is now a home of a cluster of four nuclear power plants each of which is rated for a generating capacity of 220 MW (e). The first pair of units that were commissioned about 19 years ago has made significant strides in safe operation of the nuclear power plants. One of the units, KGS unit-1 operated continuously for 962 days to become the longest operated Nuclear power plant in the world on 31/12/2018, a feat commendable in the international arena. KGS-2 also followed this achievement by completing more than 690 days of continuous operation. Kaiga Site has the unique distinction of operating all the Units continuously for over 500 days.
